Marc ANTONINI received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 1991 and the “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” in 2003, both from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France). He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES, Toulouse, France), in 1991 and 1992. He joined the CNRS in 1993 at the I3S laboratory both from University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis and CNRS and he is "Directeur de Recherche CNRS" since 2004. He is leading the MediaCoding research team at I3S laboratory (www.i3s.unice.fr/mediacoding).
He is a co-founder of Cintoo3D (www.cintoo3d.com) a Start-Up he created in July 2013, spin-off from University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis and CNRS and specialized in 3D streaming solutions.

He was prize-winner in 2013 for the French national innovation prize for the creation of start-ups, CREADEV Emergence. He received the ‘Médaille de l’Université’ de Nice Sophia-Antipolis in 2013.
Marc Antonini is the author of more than 200 papers, 7 book chapters and 10 patents. His research activities cover in particular image and video coding as well as geometric processing and compression of static surface meshes and animations. He is also interested in the analysis of the information contained by the neural code in the visual system, with bio-inspired applications in image and video compression. His works on wavelet transform have been included in the JPEG2000 image coding standard. From 1995 to 2001, he was involved with CNES Toulouse in the Earth Observation program ‘Pléiades’ for the definition of the on-board image coder. The image analysis solution he developed with his research group has been implemented inside the satellite (first launch in 2011).
He supervised 24 Ph.D. and is currently supervising 2 Ph.D. students.
He is a scientific co-director of the French GDR ISIS since 2003 and is responsible in this GDR of the scientific organization and chairing of the research group: ‘Telecommunications: compression, transmission, protection’. He is also coordinator of the working group ‘Coding and Perception’ of the GDR ISIS since 2008.
He is Associate Editor for the Eurasip Journal on Image and Video Processing (JIVP), member of the Technical Committee IEEE IVMSP (Image Video and Multidimensional Signal Processing) and member of the Technical Committee IEEE Image, Video and Mesh coding Interest Group.
He was Technical Program Chair for the conferences IEEE ICIP 2014 in Paris (France) and Eusipco 2015 in Nice (France), Finance Chair for the IEEE Workshop Multimedia and Signal Processing 2001 in Cannes (France) and participated to the organization of the IEEE Workshop Multimedia and Signal Processing 2010 in Saint-Malo (France). Currently, he is organizing the National French Conference on Image and Signal Processing (GRETSI 2017), which will be held in Juan-Les-Pins in September 2017.
He was coordinator of the specialty ‘Vision, Image, MultiMedia’ of the Master “Informatique: Fondements et Ingénierie’ of Polytech Nice-Sophia of University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis from 2008 to 2012
He was a member of the CNRS expert committee “Multidimensional and Multimodal Signal Processing” from 2005 to 2008.
He also participates to several national research and development projects with French industries, and in several international academic collaborations.
He is a member IEEE.
